About Us

Does one just wake up and say, "why don't I quit my day job and open up an ice cream shop?" Of course, not but, if you want something bad enough you go get it! So here is my story, don't worry I will try to make it short and sweet.

It has been a long dream of mine to open my own business. I grew up around entrepreneur's, from a housing developer to a small business remodeling company. I knew that was what I wanted to do. Be my own "BOSS".

I spent 20 years in the IT industry. The last 15 years I managed all hiring for primarily start up software companies. To make a long boring story short, I got tired of the corporate grind. I was ready for my true career, FUN career and MOST REWARDING career, The Udder Bar! But first, I had to convince my wife, Hayley.

I grew up in Allentown and spent a lot of time with my friends in the West End playing sports and riding bikes. Being able to bring a family friendly ice cream parlor back to my roots was a great way to start my dream.

So why ice cream you may ask? I LOVE ice cream ever since I can remember. My family and I would go out every week and try and find the best ice cream spots all year long. Fast forward 25 years. We found our favorite ice cream parlor in Cape May, NJ. A small family-owned ice cream parlor in a residential community that is just awesome! Every time we would go, I would walk out of there saying, "I can do this"! What started off as a joke was soon going to be my reality. Two things I always noticed, #1 all the employees where smiling and looked super happy working. #2 everyone in the store was smiling and happy, enjoying quality time with their family and friends. I wanted to open up an ice cream parlor, because ice cream is fun!!!

My mission for my store was to be different. Not just your average scoop shop. A place where you can hang out and play games and catch up with friends. A place kids can hang out after a football game. Remember doing that as a kid? I do. 8 months of research went in before our grand opening. There were a lot of things I did not know. One thing was for sure, I knew I wanted to bring back waffles and ice cream! Fun fact, The Udder Bar offers 4 kinds of waffles and ice cream!

Giving back to our local community is also very imported to me and my family. The reality of owning your own business I feel comes with a responsibility to support those around you. Every month we create an amazing Udderly Grateful Sundae that supports a local charity. 10% of the proceeds from that sundae goes back to them. We also hold fundraising events for local schools, hospitals, animal shelters and more.

What does the future look like? My goal is to have several Udder Bar locations throughout the Lehigh Valley! My wife and I have 3 kids. One store per child sounds about right. 🙂

Finally, thank you for supporting my dream and I truly hope to see you soon ordering your favorite scoop of my homemade ice cream.

Thank you,
Mike
